Hydraulic-Mechanical Governors & Controls

Woodward hydraulic-mechanical Governors provide reliable and precise control of engine speed and output in virtually every type og engine application. Available in work output ratings from 10.8 inch-pounds up to 500 foot-pounds, Woodward governors are used in power generation, marine, pump, compression and vehicle applications.

Identifying a component

Locate the specification

In order to identify component part and ensure correct quote and delivery, it is crucial that minimum below information is stated:

Product model/type
Part number or designation
Serial number
If possible, please always forward a picture of the name plate as units may contain special pre- and -suffix letters that can contain alteration, modification or special calibration settings.

Above minimum information is required in addition to the model/type number because your governor/control will have several unique parts appropriate for the precise operating characteristics of your engine or turbine application.

Special suffix – Identification marks

The special suffix markings to track in the field changes, permanent identification markings are to be issued when either the control is altered from the original material list or calibrated differently from the Woodward, Inc., specification sheet.

Some examples are: changing governor speed calibration to suit an application, or changing a solenoid coil to accommodate a different voltage than originally specified, etc.

The special suffix marking is accomplished by using a “letter stamp” to imprint a designation suffix on the main original Woodward, Inc., nameplate.

This imprinting should be of a size and style to match the original imprinting of the designation number as closely as practical.

Woodward Governor’s leading-edge diesel engine control systems help you to achieve maximum efficiency and minimum emissions from your engines. Software is easy to use. Controls use digital electronics, electric and hydro-mechanical auxiliaries and servo actuation systems and on-engine accessories.

Our control solutions include speed control, fuel control, integrated speed/fuel control and integration of ancillary devices. Quality and performance are assured through the use of advanced control algorithms, system analysis and system modeling to verify application before installation.

For a range of applications, we can offer upgrading of the mechanical governors to electronic versions, replacing the old mechanical governor with an actuator that is designed to fit directly onto the same drive. An electronic control panel is tailored to add additional benefits, e.g. better electronically controlled load sharing between engines.

Today, the company is still family-owned and has evolved into Northern Europe’s leading partner for repair and reconditioning of key components for large diesel engines and turbines.
